Minnesota Vikings Promote 3rd Quarterback As Sam Bradford Is Questionable
The Minnesota Vikings had an excellent opening week against the New Orleans Saints, winning the game 29-19. Quarterback Sam Bradford went 27 for 32 with 346 yards and 3 touchdowns. This week they're headed to Pittsburgh to take on Ben Roethlisberger and the 1-0 Steelers. It will likely be a tough game, but the Vikings should be going into it with some confidence.
But now there are some concerns with Bradford's health. The former Rams 1st round pick has been known to be injury prone, but came into the organization last year after Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season ending… and possibly career ending… knee injury. Bradford played well all of last season and is looking good so far. An MRI on the knee Tuesday showed no specific damage. But Bradford experienced pain, swelling and discomfort in the knee after the season opening victory. He's has surgery on the knee twice, 2013 and in 2014, to repair a torn ACL.
But the team seems to be erring on the side of caution as they moved practice squad quarterback Kyle Sloter up to the 53-man roster, giving them three quarterbacks going into Sunday's game. Sloter is relatively new to the team, signing two weeks ago after spending the preseaosn with the Denver Broncos. If Bradford is unable to go, Sloter would back up Case Keenum, another former Rams quarterback. Keenum started 9 games last season for L.A. and threw for over 2200 yards with 9 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Bradford is traveling with the team to Pittsburgh but is listed as 'questionable' on the injury report. To make room on the active roster, the Vikings had to waive safety Antone Exum Jr..
