During yesterday's update on how things were looking with writer/director James Gunn's Superman: Legacy ahead of its March filming start, Anthony Carrigan (Barry) offered us some insights into Metamorpho and his personal connections with the character. But for this go-around, Carrigan focuses on his approach to taking on the role. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on Monday night during the Emmy Awards red carpet, Carrigan shared that he's "reading the comic books" and "using my imagination" to begin crafting his take on the character. Noting that the character hasn't been brought to live-action screens in the past, Carrigan added that he's been pulling inspiration for the character from all around him and then "throw it into a pot and see what happens." Carrigan also shared that he's known his upcoming co-star Rachel Brosnahan for some time and had nothing but great things to say about her – especially when it comes to their upcoming blockbuster. "She's going to make such an incredible Lois Lane," Carrigan added.

"It's very refreshing to be playing a superhero, finally, but I don't think it quite matters to me," Carrigan shared when discussing how he approaches playing a "big bad" compared to a superhero role like the one he has in the upcoming DC Studios film. "My favorite game is to, no matter what I'm given, try to find the opposites. See what's possible in terms of stretching a character in different directions. With all of my characters, I really try to find some sense of authenticity and truth in what I can relate to about the character. With Metamorpho, this is a character who was almost cursed with his powers and thought that he was freakish in terms of what he looked like, and that's something I could totally relate to because of my alopecia."

Carrigan went into further detail during his interview with Rolling Stone on the personal connections he feels with the hero and how that helped define his views of Metamorpho. "Alopecia is an interesting experience to go through because it, more than anything, rocks your world when it comes to your identity," Carrigan shared. "You go from someone who moves throughout the world in a way that everyone looks at you and you are who you are, and then all of a sudden, things start to change on your head and on your face. People stop looking at you, and they start looking at your condition, and that is a really alienating, very dehumanizing thing." As the actor sees it, how one accepts themselves is what differentiates the villains from the heroes. "Villains don't really accept themselves all that much. Superheroes tend to," Carrigan added. "There's this concept of acknowledging one's journey and leading with love as opposed to bitterness and wishing that you could change."

Set for a July 11, 2025, premiere, DC Studios' Superman: Legacy stars (so far) David Corenswet (Hollywood) as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane. In addition, the Superman: Legacy cast includes Nicholas Hoult (The Great) as Lex Luthor,  Isabela Merced (Sicario: Day of the Soldado) as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho.
