Fox Options Upcoming Sci-Fi Thriller Novel Influx
It hasn't even been released yet, but Daniel Suarez's futuristic sci-fi thriller novel Influx has already been optioned for the big screen treatment, according to THR.
Set in a world in which technology has been suppressed to prevent their inevitable takeover of the planet, the novel follows a scientist named Jon Grady who invents a device that can reflect gravity (flying cars, finally!) but rather than being celebrated, finds his research facility shut down by the shadowy Bureau of Technology Control, who aim to keep technological advances from reaching the public. Because what if Skynet is real, you see?
Suarez probably knows what he's talking about because he was an IT guy before turning to writing novels based on all his knowledge of technology. Formerly self-published, he's now with Dutton, who will be releasing Influx, his third novel, next month.
No writers or directors have been attached to the project yet, but THR points out that Fox has tended to option a book first, then attach high profile filmmakers, such as David Fincher to Gone Girl and Tim Burton to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
