How Peter Serafinowicz Made Me Fall In Love With The Beautiful Game
Peter Serafinowicz is ramping up to being a national treasure. This could be his the moment that puts him over the edge.
He played Simon Pegg's professional flatmate in Shaun Of The Dead, and love rival in Spaced. He was the voice of Darth Maul in the Star Wars prequels. He wrote and starred in Look Around You, and The Peter Serafinowicz Show for the BBC, but of late he's been going online and doing it himself. The heroin sitcom Junkies, the O! News parody of Entertainment television, with his impersonation skills seeing him play some of Hollywood's biggest and best, while also taking a little known TV advertorial voice and turning him into a monstrous egotistical broadcaster. Oh and he's the guy in the Guardians Of The Galaxy trailer who says "what a bunch of A-holes." An improvised line, apparently.
This is a photo I took of him at the Iron Man premier.
Here are a few clips of his stuff.

Anyway Peter Serafinowicz has done the impossible for me. Made me happy to watch the football. Because, yes, there's a World Cup going on. And Peter Serafinowicz, along with his fellow voiceover artist Lewis Macleod (who is also pretty brilliant) are improvising football commentary and broadcasting it along with the match. So you can turn off the BBC commentator and stream in Peter instead. Oh and getting guest commentator, his familiar character Brian Butterfield.
"Now, this is significant, they've changed the colour of the pitch."
"This isn't a Game Of Thrones, this is a game of balls."
"This is the 2014th World Cup."
"It looks like we might be activating multi ball… no, they've withdrawn the other ball."
"I thought it must be very startling when it splits into three."
"For those just joining us, the score is Zero Minus One, Nil One, to either Ghana or USA"
"If the goal is scored in a leap minute, and this hour is a leap hour, then the goal doesn't count."
"I've heard of this drink, Coca-Cola, but never tried it. My wife's had it a couple of times. She says it's quite tasty."
You can hear the commentary for the USA Vs Ghana game here. And follow Peter to find out when his next broadcast will be.
