Adam's Apples – Happy World Of Love
Hi my name is Adam Messinger. You probably don't know me, but that's okay. I love you anyhow. The point of this column is me telling you about independent comics I'm reading. You'll hear about weird stuff I've found at cons, old 80's indy comics that I recently discovered, the latest at Image, or the early works of creators who's popularity now surpasses Zeus. I like being a positive dude, and that means you'll only hear about stuff I'm enjoying. Thanks for reading, person who I don't know yet.
In my inaugural column, I'd had it all planned out where I'd researched this book. I'd taken notes on it. I was going to break it down in some epic scale…then I went to the Big Wow Comics Fest and met up with an acquaintance of mine. It was all over when he busted out his mini-comics, Happy World Of Love.
His name is Jose Gabriel Angeles, and the contents of Happy World of Love are probably illegal in many states. Death orgies, abortion, and genital mutilation are heavily prevalent themes. Angeles goes over the top with crude art to create a messterpiece. I just made that word up. We're running with it regardless of how dumb it is.
These stories are what comics are all about in my opinion, and that's self-expression. Angeles isn't afraid to just be honest with the reader about how depraved and twisted his mind is. If you take any of his stories seriously in these sixteen page adventures then you will be highly offended. That offense will start with the cover. If you can look at all the copious amounts of blood and vulgarity for the ridiculousness then you are in for a humorous ride. Again, this comic is not for the faint of heart. I loved it though. You can tell he poured himself into the pages. They're not printed on the best paper, and the coloring isn't of Justin Ponser quality. It's just these short stories of a guy expressing his most disturbing thoughts in a hilarious way. As I said…it's a messterpiece.
If you're interested in seeing what else he's all about then check out Jose's site at http://crudedude.net. You can check Happy World of Love for yourself at his online shop (http://www.etsy.com/listing/89290191/happy-world-of-love-mini-comics-issues). It's a measly 15$ for 5 full color mini-comics. They're worth it. It's not for everyone…like kids and grandparents…but then again neither is alcohol. From what I hear that's quite fun. I bet they're like the same thing.
