Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3 Not Getting A Western Release Over Social Fears
Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball is rather infamous. It's most famous for bringing the world the term 'jiggle physics' for the other-worldly way it portrayed the breasts of the women in the game.
Well, there is a new one on the way called Dead or Alive Extreme 3 from developer Koei Tecmo, but don't expect it to make the jump from Japan to the US or EU. Responding on the game's Facebook page, a community manager confirmed that the game wouldn't be coming, saying:
We do not bring DOAX3 to the west and won't have any plan change in the future. Thank you for asking.
When pushed for a reason, the developer said:
Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision. Thank you. [sic]
Obviously, this response has started a rather heated debate. Of course, it's all somewhat of a moot point as the PlayStation 4 is not region locked and the game will likely feature English subtitles, so getting hands on it shouldn't be so difficult.
I've seen two trains of thought on this whole thing though, which are that 'SJWs' are coming to censor all games or this is a developer trying to drum up a 'cause' for a returning franchise that hasn't ever been particularly good or popular. I can't say I'm cynical enough to support either, and believe this was just a corporate decision that had some real thought put into it, having more to do with the internal workings of Koei Tecmo, rather than external pressure.
