A New Name For Wiccan… (SPOILERS)

Recently it has been pointed out that the New Avengers character, Billy Kaplan, known as Wiccan, could do with a name change. In that, child of the Scarlet Witch that he is, he doesn't practise anything relating to the wiccan religion.

Not the only name change he has been through, Asgardian was considered unfortunate when he came out as gay.

So what to use? Well at the end of this week's issue, we discover his new name.

And no, that doesn't mean "half-horny." Defined in the dictionary as a being responsible for the material creation of the universe.

But keen Marvel readers will know the history of that name from Young Avengers, when they were dimension-hopping…

And why did he get such attention in this dimension?

So, the Demiurge is in Billy's future. It's just that that future arrives a litle sooner than initially planned.

Which he does. A bit.

A bigger bit.

But not all the way.

I don;t know, wordplay is probably part of the game. Wiccan was an improvement on Asgardian but still has "Wick" in it. And demi-urge, does sound a bit like a "semi hard-on"…

So his demiurge nature remain in his future.

It just so happens that this future is today…

If he is destined to change the very nature of magic – and he is now living in a new universe in which magic is broken – does this have to b a bad thing?

Probably.
