Kevin Smith In Talks To Bring Buckaroo Banzai Back
It seems Kevin Smith enjoy his directing stint on the Flash enough that now he wants his own TV series… and Deadline is reporting that the Clerks director/writer and MGM may be close to a deal with Amazon to bring back Buckaroo Banzai.
This is still in the development stage, but if the deal can be closed shortly, Smith may be talking about it at his Hall H panel on Saturday. Smith has said that the first season would be reworking the film while a second season would take the characters to new places. He's also said he'd like to see Peter Weller, John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd and Jeff Goldblum appear in the series.
The original film, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, stared Weller as the scientist, adventurer, rockstar along with an awesome cast of actors including Lloyd, Lithgow, Goldblum, Ellen Barkin, Carl Lumbley and Clancy Brown. It was directed by W. D. Richter from a script by Earl Mac Rauch. A sequel card appeared at the end of the film announcing the never made Buckaroo Banzai Against The World Crime League… a script for the film exists and here's hoping that Smith would use that as the basis for a second season.
A special Collector's Edition of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension comes out on Blu-ray August 16th.
