Marvel Have A Record 9 Retailer Exclusive Variant Covers In April – Secret Empire #0 To X-Men ResurrXion To Ben Reilly
That's a new record.
Marvel Comics are making 9 titles in April available as retailer exclusive variant covers.
Retailer covers enable a retailer, a subscription box, a comic convention, to get a cover just for their use, but have to order 3000 copies of the print run. They can then also get further variants of that variant, generally 1500 each. It's a really easy way – if pricey – for Marvel to bump up their orders on titles.
The stores can then use them to sell as collectibles or use them as promotional items for the store.
IDW began the practice with a Godzilla comic, and many publishers have followed suit. Marvel, however, have been upping the numbers. And while DC have restricted their offerings to two a month, Marvel have pushed to five, to seven and now to nine.
The titles available for retailer exclusive covers are:
X-Men Gold #1
X-Men Blue #1
Weapon X #1
The Royals #1
All-New Wolverine #19
Black Panther And The Crew #1
Nick Fury #1
Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider #1
Secret Empire #0
You know, Marvel still haven't actually announced Secret Empire #0 for April 19th. They really should if they are offering it as a retailer exclusive variant. We reckon it's Nick Spencer writing it but anything else? Still waiting…
