A Record 14 Retailer Exclusive Covers From Marvel In October
Bleeding Cool has been totting up the number of exclusive retailer covers that Marvel comics has been offering every month. It#s generally around five or seven. Once it dropped down to two. But October, they are not holding back.
Retailer exclusive covers are made available to retailers who commit to order several thousand copies, with a cover all to themselves. They can be sold as a collectable, used as a calling card or promotion, and they also help the publisher bump up the numbers. It's an expensive way to do so though, and while Marvel will make money on the deal, they'll make less than from usual sales of the comic. There is also a danger that with more and more exclusive covers being offered, the market will be oversaturated and the demand will disappear.
And never has that been a greater danger than in October, where Marvel are offering a record fourteen comics with exclusive retailer covers, that's about a quarter of their comics in the month being offered in this fashion.
The comics are…
- DEADPOOL VS. OLD MAN LOGAN #1
- CABLE #150
- CHAMPIONS #13
- INCREDIBLE HULK #709
- INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #593
- LUKE CAGE #166
- MIGHTY THOR #700
- MONSTERS UNLEASHED #7
- SPIDER-GWEN #25
- AMERICA #8
- BLACK PANTHER #165
- JEAN GREY #8
- CAPTAIN MARVEL #125
- U.S.AVENGERS #11
All for October… which will your comic store take advantage of? Or will they run for the hills?
