Titans Season 1: Jake Michaels Cast as Robotman for Doom Patrol Appearance

The Doom Patrol continues to grow. Geoff Johns first teased the the Doom Patrol would be visiting the Titans on the new live-action series, then we got the casting news that Bruno Bichir was going to play Dr. Niles "The Chief" Caulder, and then word that April Bowlby would be Rita Farr, aka Elastic-Girl. Another day and another report from Comicbook.com, this time that Jake Michaels (Designated Survivor) has been cast as Cliff Steele, otherwise known as Robotman. Steel was in a car accident that destroyed his body, but his brain was saved by Dr. Caulder and placed inside a powerful robotic body.

Robotman made his first appearance in My Greatest Adventure #80 (1963) along with the rest of the original Doom Patrol. They were created by Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani. The casting means that the only member of the original lineup yet announced is Negative Man and Robotman. Michaels will make his first appearance in episode 5 of the series set for the new DC-themed streaming service. There is an option for him to recur later in the season.

Michaels has done a lot of guest appearances, most recently on shows like Designated Survivor, Saving Hope, Condor, and Conviction.

The series is from executive producers Akiva GoldsmanGeoff JohnsGreg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Already cast as Dick Grayson is Brenton Thwaites, along with Anna Diop as Starfire, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Teagan Croft as Raven, Minka Kelly as Dove and Alan Ritchson as Hawk. The series focuses on Grayson as he moves out of the shadow of The Batman and into becoming a hero of his own. We've seen images of Thwaites in a Robin costume, but I expect that we'll also see him as Nightwing.
