DC Comics to Cancel Batwoman in August

Batwoman just can't catch a break at DC Comics.

An Amazon listing noticed by Bleeding Cool reader Andrew shows that Batwoman Vol 3: Fall Of The House Of Kane collects Batwoman #12 to #18. No surprise there – but the description gives away a little more than may have been intended. It reads;

Batwoman continues her triumphant return with her own series in Batwoman Vol. 3, as a part of DC Universe Rebirth!

After her deadly trip around the world hunting the infamous Many Arms of Death, Batwoman returns to Brussels, the site of her most brutal losses and memories. As the clock begins to tick on a new cycle of violence, Kate must overcome her haunted past to ensure her terrorist foes don't begin the New Year with a bang!

Written by Marguerite Bennett (DC Comics Bombshells) this stunning conclusion to the series ends this chapter of Batwoman's history! Batwoman Vol. 3 collects issues #12-18.

In the comics, Kate Kane, Batwoman has become estranged from the rest of the Batman books after killing Clayface, joining a group in opposition to Batman, and generally following the future path seen by the future Batman, Tim Drake. There had been much speculation as to how this might be put back together.

Maybe it won't?

DC Comics to Cancel Batwoman in AugustBatwoman is the first of the DC Rebirth Batbooks titles that have been cancelled, though other concluding books include Blue Beetle, Superwoman, Super Sons, Supergirl, Trinity and Cyborg.

Batwoman had a troubled history, announced as a new lesbian lead character, she had a number of false starts before getting the lead in Detective Comics and starting her series, only for the creative team to leave when the decision to allow the character to marry was reversed by DC Editorial during the New 52 relaunch with their ban on all lead characters being married, and the series tripping over its own platform boots to cancellation.

DC Rebirth revived the title two years ago as part of a closer-knit continuity of storytelling but, as Batman himself is now getting married to Catwoman, Batwoman's own title appears to be coming to an end…
