Re: Thoughts on Castle Rock Tourism Video
Hey, Molly! Hope all's well and that your headaches have gone away — were you able to meet up with your physician and get him to prescribe you something? First off, let me start by saying I'm really encouraged by your passion for Castle Rock and your drive to bring the town back to its original grandeur — it definitely shows in the new tourism video you sent me. With that said, I had a chance to spend a couple of days there recently — helps me get a better sense of what it is I'm working with.
Out of respect for your personal and professional connections to the town, I'll keep my thoughts on Castle Rock directed at the tourism video only — but there are some things I observed that I strongly urge you to keep in mind should you be considering any additional "adjustments" (you'll understand my use of punctuation there shortly) to the video:
Great opening scene — you said there used to be a cemetery there, right? Town did a nice job paving over the area — best stay away from anything having to do with the previous reverend, though. Serious mood killer.
Reminds me: what's the deal with the main bridge in town? Might want to consider naming it after someone: helps with the "folksy" vibe you're trying to sell. An old mayor? A teacher? A librarian? People around here spoke of a "Sheriff Pangborn" — possibility?
I know this might sound like a weird question, but did you ever notice that the wind makes a weird sound in the woods and along the banks? Almost like it's talking? Granted, I was working on about two hours sleep and four hours in the air — but yeah. A little weird. Speaking of weird — how do you folks deal with the stories surrounding the Deaver boy's disappearance? Important to have an answer for that: families and families-to-be know how to Google so they're going to ask.
Big fan of that line — but you need to get rid of it. Fast. Think you know why. Heard there's still no explanation as to why that family flipped out on each other during their birthday party. Wife mentioned something about someone being there, watching? Yeah… "open our doors"… not so good.
Great place to drop in some images of some lifeguards, police boats, forest rangers, things like that. Pretty sure you know my reasons for it at this point.
Love how the sky looks during these scenes. Glad you were able to film before the smoke blew in. Caught some updates on the forest fire earlier today. Make sure you get out of there if it gets that bad, okay? Got a pull-out with your name on it if you need.
Was that taken during a high school football game? Yeah…when I see you this weekend, let's go over what other sports or activities we can highlight. Best go with something that doesn't have a mascot. Again, think you know why.
Sweet aerial shot! I agree: less Shawshank, the better. Can't say I regret not stopping by there. Just didn't feel right.
Might be the understatement of the year… lol. Your town definitely has a distinct vibe to it — still rolls around in my head every now and then, and I was only there for a few days.
Otherwise, it looks great! Looking forward to meeting up this weekend — any chance you can make it out my way? I'd rather stick closer to home this time.
A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King's best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.
The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King's literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.
From J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lost), best-selling author Stephen King and executive producers/writers Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, Castle Rock stars André Holland (Moonlight), Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness), Bill Skarsgård (IT), Jane Levy (Suburgatory), Sissy Spacek (Carrie), Scott Glenn (The Right Stuff), Terry O'Quinn (Lost) and Chosen Jacobs (It).
Here's a look at our review of the fifth episode of Hulu's Castle Rock, 'Harvest' (with some spoilers):
