One Analyst Says You Won't See The PS5 Until 2021 At The Earliest

The prospect of buying another new console only five years after the last one is already an annoyance, but it sounds like that may not be the immediate case. Yasuo Imanaka, who is an industry analyst for Rakuten Securities, penned an article this week about Sony's fiscal year and the expectations of the PlayStation 5. As part of the analysis, he claims that the PS5 may not even see the light of day until 2020, and that you won't see it hit the market until 2021, maybe even 2022. This is based of his analysis of the market, the company's desire to expand based on fiscal year projections, gaming and networking service trends, and a few other factors.

From a gamer perspective, that honestly sounds like music to our ears. Years ago when the Nintendo Wii and the PS3 came out at the same time with large prices, it divided the market and forced people to choose. Because who the hell actually had $1,100 to spend between the two back in 2006? Not to mention potential Xbox 360 owners who wanted to see what the PS3 had to offer before buying either. And again back in 2013 when the Xbox One and PS4 were fighting for the market. With Microsoft seemingly unveiling their new consoles at E3 2019, there's a potential there to divide the market again and hurt everyone from making huge profits. Not to mention forcing gamers to choose between the two and missing out on what the other has to offer. If this is the year they finally don't compete head-to-head against another console, us and our wallets would be absolutely happy with that.
