Heroes In Crisis #8 – So What Happens Next? (Spoilers)

So, today sees the release of Heroes In Crisis #8. The big reveal. The gameplan Tom King and Clay Mann have been barrelling towards at full speed. With a few divergences along the way. And in this issue, with Mitch Gerads as well, everything that happened is expositionally laid out, Everyone who died, and why,. What was going through the killer's brain? And how all the inconsistencies were planned from the get-go, how everything all lines up, with no thread unsnipped. The differing accounts of Harley and Booster. What The Puddlers mean. How Lois Lane got all that information. And what went very, very wrong at the heart of the Sanctuary.

And, yeah, Bleeding Cool was kinda right from the beginning. No machine guns though, sorry.

But what happens now? Wally talks about redemption about having to spend those missing five days doing something good, before executing himself for his own crimes.

Even though the deaths were an accident. And even though his own cover-up will have caused so much grief. And even though he is confessing to Lois Lane everything he did.

The comic goes a long way to explaining Wally's irrational actions after the event that killed everyone at Sanctuary, as well as the feelings that got him to that point, and the lack of ability of the system to notice or address them when it could. And that I get – I don't talk about this a lot but there was a time in my life, around ten years ago when I had lost my job and was feeling suicidal. I had started to plan things out in a very methodical manner, how to commit suicide without making it look like that, so my life insurance would pay out and care for my family. I would later understand that this kind of attitude, a very matter-of-fact mathematical approach is common, especially in men with responsibilities whose circumstances change overnight, and is a contributor to why so many older men commit suicide.

Thankfully I was able to use that same analytic thinking to analyse those thoughts themselves and get help – a combination of medication and talking therapy from the NHS. That, and possibly being hired to start Bleeding Cool, may have saved my life.

And that's what I got reading Heroes In Crisis #8, the madly logical solution to what has happened, taking ridiculous measures to avoid capture so that you can do something that makes a difference before, literally, killing yourself.

Those five days, in Wally West's mind at least, must be really something.

Heroes In Crisis #8 - So What Happens Nezt? (Spoilers)

However, even this is now the originally intended 'whydunnit' conclusion, I confess to being at a loss as to the 'howdunnit'. Yes, it would take someone a billion years to rejig all that information, and would take The Flash seconds – but where would you start with Kryptonian technology programmed by the Batcave?

Heroes In Crisis #8 - So What Happens Nezt? (Spoilers)

Or all that reprogramming of Sanctuary? Is it purely a matter of speed or ability, tackling something outside of human knowledge? Could this be Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hours Tipping Point and Outliers theory taken to the extreme? Does any of that actually matter? Is this more over-analysis on my part?

Here comes Heroes In Crisis #9.

And we have still heard nothing different regarding where Wally West will end up after the series has concluded… heading up a new Suicide Squad series written by Brian AzzarelloAfter all, not many members of that team who have actually committed suicide to get on it.

Still on the cards…
