Welcome to Free Comic Book Day, the annual comic shop event that invites fans new and old to experience the diversity of comics! There are comic books for every taste – from the super spandex to the darkest horror, to the quirkiest slice of life. It doesn't matter if you are reading your first comic book, have come back to the hobby after several years, or are an avid regular Wednesday Warrior – the thrill of finding a story, writer, or artist that speaks to you is the magic of the medium.

And we are glad that you chose to share your comic book passion with us, here at Bleeding Cool. We've spent the last few years bringing you the breaking news and rumors surrounding comics at www.bleedingcool.com. Rich Johnston's unique insights, snark, and knack for digging up the dirt behind the scenes have entertained millions online. Bleeding Cool Magazine is our contribution to the hobby that has captured our imaginations and given all of us a chance to feel like we're part of something bigger. We want to bring the things that you can't get online to you at the comic shop, and help to introduce you to some of the most interesting projects being published. There is so much more to comics than the tried-and-true superheroes of yesteryear. We want to take you on a journey deeper into the field, uncover the gems that enhance your reading passion, and give you something new to enjoy.

This special issue of Bleeding Cool Magazine, designed to reach out to all of our readers, includes some content especially for those just discovering the world of comic books. We have features that present many of the unique ways to enjoy the hobby, which we hope will help you become familiar with – and a regular part of – the weekly excitement of new comics day.
