A New Hope Collectible Toys & Comics of Madison, Wisconsin to Close
After the industry shutdown, it was anticipated that many comics stores would shutter completely and be unable to open up again. But a mixture of comic store ingenuity, government assistance, consumer spending and the charitable work of BINC has stopped that from happening. But it would never be able to stop all comic stores closing. Bleeding Cool covered some early closures but honestly, it's far fewer than I thought at this stage. But today we have to add one more.
A New Hope Collectible Toys & Comics of Madison, Wisconsin just posted the news, only days after they stated they would be reopening on weekends in July. Which they are, but then that's it. They posted;
Josh and I are sad to announce that July will be the last month we are able to keep the store open. COVID-19 has kept us closed for too long and we can no longer afford to keep the store. We will have many items on sale like comics back issues, trade paperbacks, manga, funko Pops! and lots of toys on clearance too. Make sure you come to see us one last time on the weekends of July!! It's been a privilege to know all of our fantastic customers.
As to why they couldn't accept funding like some stores, they added;
The new building owner is kicking us out to renuvate the building and we couldn't find an affordable alternative on State St.
Those who want to visit the store before it closes are encouraged to go to the store on a weekend before the end of July.
Bleeding Cool tries to mark the passing of comics stores as well as their opening. Existing fanbases are likely to make the former more well known, but please let us know if a comic store is opening or closing in your neighbourhood. Just email richjohnston@bleedingcool.com.
