Acme Ink's The Tale of a Well-Hung Man #1 Is Not Damaged, Honest

Diamond Comics has issued the following note for the upcoming launch issue of Acme Ink's The Tale of a Well-Hung Man #1 out (finally) this week. They state that the cover to the first issue "has been intentionally "aged" for effect with mock wear, creases and a "bent" upper right-hand corner that is part of the artwork, as shown below. It is not damaged and should not be reported as being so."

Hre's how the comic book was solicited:

TALES OF A WELL HUNG MAN #1 (OF 4)
ACME INK
FEB201376
(W) Ken Thomas (A) Gary Crutchley (CA) Alan Robinson, John Hageman
Westerns are back! This anthology will take you places you've never dreamed before! Issue one's title says it all: "The Tale of a Well Hung Man." The story of an ornery sort who's crimes have brought him to justice where he sits in a jail cell stalling for time to escape the hangman. Will he be smarter then his executioners? Only a well hung man knows for sure. This issue has a 6 page back-up featuring a twisted take on "Billy the Kid": Imagine if Billy were a girl! And a damn mean girl at that! SRP: $3.50

And here is how it looks on arrival, close up… a non-folded cover.

So do please bear that in mind. Diamond Comic Distributors makes damaged comic books returnable (although there is sometimes some discussion about that) but they may be testing immediate calls for such regarding this title. Now, how will CGC slabbers respond to this? And how will collectors respond to a 9.8 slabbed comic book that looks anything but?

Acme Ink's The Tale of a Well-Hung Man #1 will be published tomorrow in the kind of comic book stores still happy to sell Western comic books. Sadly there are fewer of them now than there used to be.
