Australian Comic Store Seeks $50,000 To Keep Its Doors Open

18028750_1486435096-4136Ace Comics & Games has opened a Go Fund Me page, saying,

Ace Comics and Games is a Brisbane institution. We've been open at our two locations in Annerley and the Queen Street Mall for 24 years!

We wholesale comics and graphic novels to more than 20 comics and game stores across Australia. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years, several of our wholesale customers have gone out of business owing us substantial amounts of money. At the same time, sales have been declining at our stores and we've found it difficult to maintain a full range of products.

The funds we're asking for will be used to pay down overdue bills; expand our stock range and refurbish and upgrade our stores. We've already taken steps to cut costs but we need to reduce our outstanding debt.

Over the years, we've hosted innumerable gaming events. We've also supported comics and gaming through such activities as Free Comic Book Day; the Annerley Drink & Draw artists group; 24 Hour Comics day; Halloween Comic Fest; Batman Day and the GoPlay gaming convention.

We're especially proud of our support for Australian comics. As well as carrying an extensive range of Australian comics in our stores; we've supported Australian comics crowdfunding campaigns and in 2014 we published Best Australian Comics 2014, a major anthology of original comics stories.

We are currently planning some special thank you presents for our donors which will likely include t-shirts and laminated prints.

A heady reminder that it's not just American comic book stores that have been feeling the pressure. $765 has been raised in the first four hours.
