Boom! Studios Is A Unicorn That Wants To Be A Premier Publisher

Screenshot (376) At Diamond Comic Distributors, there are two kinds of comic book publishers. The Premier Publishers who have a front of catalogue presence and who contract Diamond to be their distributor rather than simply be distributed by Diamond.

And some retailers rarely look past the Premier section.

The last publisher to join the Premier section was IDW. The last to leave was either Acclaim or Wizard, depending how you define it.

But Boom Studios! wants in. As they say, they are the biggest Non-Premier Publisher, and often their stats see them placed above Dark Horse, sometimes even IDW. And they want to point out how they've been growing.

At Baltimore Diamond Retailer Summit they talked about how their plan to reduce the amount of titles thy published led to greater overall sales, able to more carefully curate the line, and market it.

Screenshot (374)How they are selling blocks of their top twenty best selling first volumes collections to retailers at a big discount, will give them away to new stores and will give extra discount to retailers who refer other retailers to order their big collection pack.
