The Comic Book Adaptation Taken Down By North Korea
It's not just the movies, e-mails and documents that got leaked by North Korean hackers.
It's not just the movie not being released because of terrorist threats to cinemas.
But the planned thriller Pyongyang based on the award-winning graphic novel by Guy Delisle, a film written and starring Steve Carell with Gore Verbinski to direct has just had its greenlight withdrawn by New Regency.
The book, which recounts Guy's experiences of working in North Korea for a year as a liaison between a French animation company and a Korean studio working on an adaptation of Corto Maltese, it focuses on frustration with the bureaucracy of the state and trying to get the job done. And is rather critical in the process, partially from culture clash but also from the ever-present propaganda, totalitarian control… and noticing a lack of visibility for disabled or the elderly on the streets.
Here, take a look at this trailer for the comic. It's he only film version you're going to get now, it seems.
