ComiXology Bestseller List, 25th January 2019 – You Can't Boycott Donny Cates…

Welcome to the Comixology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Bit of a lighter release calendar we have this week. As a result you'll notice many books are a higher place than usual (including the most underrated comic series currently, Kaijumax, finally cracking the Top 50. Recognition!). Marvel and DC have matched up very evenly, leading to a 5-5 tie. If I had to declare a winner, it would be DC, because as well as the return of Cyclops did, it still couldn't break the stranglehold Batman and Justice League continue to have on the Top 2.

While Guardians of the Galaxy is one the biggest franchises in the MCU, in the comic world it has performed under expectations recently. The last GOTG series often ranked in the mid-20's, barely beating the twice cancelled Iceman. So after a hiatus and an Infinity War shakeup, Marvel has decided this the right time for a return. And who did they tap for this endeavor? Rising comics superstar Donny Cates, and much like Venom, he resides over a massive double digit improvement over the previous incarnation. With a Top 10 debut, it appears the Donny Cates ComicsGate boycott is as effective as a North Korean missile.

Another former Dark Horse property gets a reboot with a new publisher, and this one has to sting. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was with Dark Horse for 20 years before moving to BOOM!. And in the first issue, it debuts at No. 12, around 20-30 spots better than Season 12. As much as I hate to admit it (because Buffy & Spike will be together forever! No one can convince me otherwise!), reboots and fresh starts are a necessity in the comics industry, giving curious fans a chance to dive in. In other indie news, Marjorie Liu's Monstress has returned from hiatus landing at an impressive No. 13, beating two Spider-Man titles.
