Could Bookstores Be The Saviour Of I, Vampire?
At New York Comic Con, I heard a number of people tell me that they had heard that the DC New 52 title I, Vampire was to be cancelled from issue 18 in six months time.
And that was down to a combination of lower sales and a feeling that the comic didn't sit well with the rest of the New 52.
However, a decision that far ahead is always subject to change – whether that's the whims of a publisher, and the results of the marketplace.
Well, not only is the protagonist Andrew causing a fair few waves appearing in Justice League Dark, but the New York Times comics bestseller lists are out for this week. And the first collection of I, Vampire, "Tainted Love" has smashed in at number 4 on the trade paperback lists.
For a low profile DC New 52 book to outsell every other DC trade paperback in bookstores on the week of release – indeed being the only one to even get in the top ten – may be just what the comic needs to save it.
Who'd have thought vampires would be popular in bookstores?
And with the thirteenth issue out this month, could this be justification for DC to rush the second collection out as soon as possible?
Mister Maestro, won't you play…
