DC Comics Changes FOC Cut-Off to Sunday Night, Sometimes Thursdays
Over a decade ago, the FOC battle was won. As part of a class-action lawsuit against Marvel Comics brought by comic book retailer and Bleeding Cool Bestseller Chart contributor Brian Hibbs, Marvel committed to a system where retailers were allowed to amend their direct market sales orders a few weeks before a comic book shipped, rather than three months. So if details of a comic book changed, then Marvel was able to announce them closer to on-sale date. Other publishers followed suit, Diamond made it a requirement for Premier Publishers and the Final Order Cut-Off system was established. The current cut-off is every Monday night.
When DC Comics left Diamond Comic Distributor for new distributors LCS Distribution and UCS Comic Distributors, the FOC time and date was copied over. But,just as DC Comics has changed the in-store day every week from Wednesday to Tuesday, they have now done the same with the FOC day for DC Comics from Monday night to Sunday night.
Starting in August, the weekly Final Order Cut-Off for DC Comics products going forward will be on Sunday nights at 11:59 PM Pacific time. While FOC orders for DC titles will be accepted from Friday through Sunday night. DC says that this move will help ensure more timely and accurate packing and shipping of products and that this change will go into effect with the Final Order Cut-off due at 11:59 PM Pacific time on Sunday, August 2nd.
Also on long weekends with a Monday holiday, Final Order Cut-off will be at 11:59 Pacific time on the Thursday night before. And DC Comics warns that this will be in effect the first week of September, with Final Order Cut-off at 11:59 PM Pacific time on Thursday, September 3rd due to the Labor Day holiday.
