Death Metal #2 Beats Empyre #1 in the Bleeding Cool Bestseller List
DC Comics' Dark Nights: Death Metal #2 beats out Marvel's Empyre #1 but it was a close-run thing. Strange Adventures is also doing rather well, considering.
This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait till the weekend to get this week's comics. Though thanks to DC, the Tuesday Titans too. This is also the only Direct Market Sales Chart in comics right now. Welcome to the Weekly Bleeding Cool Bestseller List. If any other retailers would like to report their top sellers, please contact richjohnston@bleedingcool.com.

Who had this to say…
Ssalefish Comics, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Concord: This was the first week since we reopened that really felt like new books were out. Empyre has a lot of folks hooked, and was tailed pretty closely by Dark Nights Death Metal #2. We haven't had too much trouble getting people through the door since reopening, but they haven't had much to spend their money on until now. Worth noting that a lot of people were interested in the FCBD selections this week too, particularly X-Men and Last Ronin, even if we're all still a little stumped by "free comic book summer".

Rodman Comics, Ankeny, Iowa: Empyre #1 is off to one of the worse starts for a major crossover here in store. Death Metal 2 outsold Empyre for us. People's reaction to Marvel's On Sale Wednesday variants? That is it? Start bragging about Wednesday comics after putting them out on Wednesdays for at least a few weeks in a row.

Graham Crackers Comics – a DOZEN shops Illinois/Wisconsin/California: Another solid week with some BIG GUNS coming out – the usual suspects made the TOP 10 with no surprises there in customer buying habits. With how little interest there has been in Empyre, I was surprised by the number of people still willing to give it a shot. I suppose #2 will be the true test on whether they come back again (next week)…
