Gorillaz Finally Get Their Own Comics in Gorillaz Almanac Annual

The comic book annual tradition in the UK consists of a comic book/magazine/music band/kids TV show having a thin, hardcover oversized book sold in the run-up to Christmas (but usually October) containing comic strips, puzzles and features, an ideal gift from elderly relatives for kids, that needs very little knowledge about what they like. They like Doctor Who? The Beano? Fortnite? Buy them the annual from the supermarket or newsagents. Job done, repeat in a year. Now it appears that Z2 Comics are using that format for the fictitious band Gorillaz.

The Gorillaz Almanac, the first Gorillaz annual, will be published for October 2020. Considering Gorillaz were co-created by Jamie Hewlett with Damon Albarn, it seems well overdue that they will be getting their first comic book stores in the annual.

Inspired by the great British tradition of the hardback annual, Gorillaz ALMANAC is a full colour, one-of-a-kind, fun-packed, 120+ page, sideways homage to two glorious decades of Gorillaz. Jammed with exclusive new artwork, including the first ever strip to star 2D, Noodle, Murdoc Niccals and Russel Hobbs; puzzles, games and more; plus a raft of special guest appearances from Gorillaz collaborators past and present, Gorillaz ALMANAC is a compendium of delights which finally puts the most real band around on the printed page.

"Every fan of comics and animation has dreamed of seeing the Gorillaz make their comic book debut, with the Z2 team chief among them" says Z2 publisher Josh Frankel. "The artwork, the music, and the mythos all add up to what is destined to be one of our most buzzed-about releases in history, and when fans see just what we have planned, I know everyone will agree it was well worth the wait."

Normally annuals sell for about £5 or £6. This one will be going for a little more than that. Ouch, But yes, people will buy them. Well, it will come with a CD as well.
