Guardians Of The Galaxy – The Big Return (SPOILERS)
So, yes, there are spoilers here, especially for Guardians Of The Galaxy #14, published today. But we've waiting until plenty of folk have had plenty of chance to pick up the comic in question, under Dan Slott's spoiler guidelines.
Unless of course, you like in the UK and don't do digital. Sorry.
So, first, a little preamble.
This is how the Guardians Of The Galaxy originally appeared, as created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan in the sixties. They hung around the Marvel Universe, regularly guarding the galaxy.
It was Jim Valentino's version, from the nineties Marvel comic that introduced the characters to a new readership as well as raising this alternative indie comic creator's profile that saw him picked to join the Image Comics founders.
Basically, he included some women. And it transformed the Marvel universe of the future and inspired what was to come. Abnett and Lanning, developing the cosmic universe with a new Guardians, kept Vance Astro with a brand new team.
And it was that version which led to the upcoming movie, and revived interest in the Guardians, with three ongoing series and a bevy of spinoffs.
But what about that original team? Have they all been abandoned?
No.
Because today, in the new Guardians Of The Galaxy #14, written by Dan Abnett, he brings them all back…
In a tale set in the far flung future but one that indicates we may be seeing them sooner than later.
It's been a while.
Hmm, I notice the women got lost on the way though… thankfully they've just picked up a new member.
