IDW Brings John Byrne to New York Comic Con
Most comic book publishers bring things like variant covers, t-shirts, statues, pins, and other merchandise as EXCLUSIVES to sell at comic book conventions, but IDW is one-upping all their competitors. The publisher is bringing the actual John Byrne as their New York Comic Con EXCLUSIVE. That's right, no one knows how, but IDW somehow coaxed Byrne out of his Byrne Robotics internet cave for a somewhat rare public appearance to sign at the IDW booth.
Okay, they're also bringing a variant cover, the New York Comic-Con EXCLUSIVE variant for Byrne's Marvel Classics Artifact Edition.
From the press release:
IDW Publishing proudly welcomes John Byrne, the legendary comic book writer/artist, for a rare convention appearance at this year's New York Comic-Con alongside the Convention Exclusive variant cover debut of John Byrne's Marvel Classics Artifact Edition.
Byrne will be signing at Booth #1844 twice a day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 3-5, with exact times to be announced closer to the show. Stay tuned to IDW social media for details!
Any IDW-published comic book, graphic novel, or art book by John Byrne can be signed free of charge. However, with the purchase of the John Byrne's Marvel Classics Artifact Edition, the buyer will be granted the opportunity for up to five (5) non-IDW items to be signed – a rare chance for fans to get Byrne's autograph on his most celebrated comics work.
John Byrne's Marvel Classics Artifact Edition is a 168-page masterpiece measuring 12" x 17", with its wraparound convention exclusive cover being the first-ever AE-style book to feature that cover style. Featuring Byrne's work from The Avengers, Captain America, Marvel Team-Up, and more, this Artifact Edition includes six (6) pages reproduced from the artist's pencils on the never-completed Captain America #257.
IDW's Artist and Artifact Editions, edited by Scott Dunbier, feature scans of original art printed at the same size they were drawn, capturing all the nuances that make original art special and unique (blue pencil notations, tape, white-out, margin notes, and more), mimicking the look and feel of the actual hand drawn pages.
When reached for comment Byrne said, "Wait, are you SURE I agreed to this? Curse you, Dunbier!"

John Byrne's Marvel Classics Artifact Edition – Convention Exclusive Variant
So, if C.B. Cebulski buys a copy of the artifact edition, can he try to talk Byrne into returning to Marvel like he's been saying he wants to do since he took over as Editor-in-Chief?
