Kickstart A Comic – Teddy-1, Sensational G-Girl, Risher, Joan Dark And Dies Irae

Bleeding Cool's Kickstarter Correspondent, Shawn Demumbrum has lead three Kickstarter campaigns to launch comic books, two successfully funded and one that wasn't. Each week he will point out some of the unique Kickstarter projects that wouldn't normally be published by the big comic book companies, but deserve your attention. Shawn's current project Break the Walls: Stories Inspired by the Songs of the Pixies is also being funded through Kickstarter.

Project: Teddy-1

Creator: Joko Budiono

Concept: TEDDY-1 is a graphic novel without words. The story was influenced by many different comics and graphic novels as well as Japanese Anime from the 80s. This book is inspired by and in appreciation of people like firefighters and EMTs. This book is about them.

Fundraising for: The Kickstarter goal amount will cover print costs for a small printing run of TEDDY-1 (1000 books). Money earned will go directly to printing and shipping expenses.

Sweet spot: Pledge $30 or more. Receive a hardbound, shrink-wrapped copy of TEDDY-1.

Cool Zone: Pledge $60 or more. Receive a hardbound, shrink-wrapped copy of TEDDY-1 and a hardbound, shrink-wrapped copy of my thumbnail book "The Thousandth Thumbnail" (120 pages). "The Thousandth Thumbnail" is a mking of Teddy-1 book.

Project: The Sensational G-Girl

Creator: Dennis Mallonee, Terrance Griep and Mark Beachum

Concept: What happens when a teenaged superhero boy suddenly finds himself magically transformed into a teenaged superhero girl?

Project: Risher

Creators: P.H. Dillard and Tamas Szalkai

Concept: What happens when you can't die? If you're Demetrius Risher, you grow disgusted with watching mankind take their existence for granted and decide to remind them how precious life is-by horrifying them with series after series of murders. Jack the Ripper, The Axeman of New Orleans, The Cleveland Torso Killer, The Zodiac, and multiple other unsolved serial murder cases have actually been the work of the same man-Risher.

His brutal deeds do not go unchallenged. Anton Karvos, the husband of one of Risher's victims, aims to stop the murderer, even if it costs him his own life. In fact, it already has-on several occasions. Lucky for him, he has someone looking out for him.

Fundraising for: This project is to raise funds for printing the first 100 copies.

Sweet spot: Pledge $10 or more. This gets you the PDF and physcial copy of issue #1, an autographed copy of the issue 1 script, and your name in the Thanks section of the issue.

Tipping point: Body swapping serial killer hunter tracks immortal serial killer responsible for cross-era murders.

Project: Joan Dark

Creators: Jeff Tamblyn, Bob Hurst, Raymond Owen and Spain Rodriguez

Concept: Joan Dark is partly an homage to Cervantes' classic 16th-century novel, Don Quixote, about a delusional and anachronistic knight on a hopeless and meaningless quest. In our story, the heroine has only one thing in mind: finding and destroying the source of all evil, a seemingly imaginary nemesis she calls Lord Nevermore.

In one disastrous misadventure after another, Joan's reluctant companion is the journalist Fareed Al-Hassan – a one-time star in the Arab media universe whose career nosedived after his own war-related trauma pushed him into a life of drugs and alcohol. Now in the US, on an assignment he hates for a boss he can't stand, Fareed's luck worsens as he becomes inextricably bound up in Joan's misguided quest.

But Fareed soon learns that Lord Nevermore is in fact a real politician, a powerful man whose ties to war-profiteering and torture make him an impossible and dangerous adversary. Fahreed tries to avert Joan's headlong plunge into disaster, but what lies ahead is worse than he could've imagined.

Fundraising for: The funds will pay Spain for his work and to build the project website.

Project: Dies Irae (Day of Wrath)

Creator: Khundy

Concept: This is a story of Adam and Eve, but instead of forgiveness, its curses of betrayal. The tree of knowledge of good and evil is the embodiment of eve, and Adam is out and about corrupting lambs to the slaughter, gaining more and more power so that he may act out his plans of retribution. The anti-hero Ira is on a road of revenge and hatred for Adam was the one who ruined his life. Follow him on this journey of twisted souls, to uncover his tormented past to how he is today.

Fundraising for: The funds will go into the process of making this book, for printing cost and for fuel for me to continue working on this demonic quest.
