Lots Of Love For The Mary Sue Lounge At New York Comic Con

June Vigants writes,

NYCC can be exhausting for fans, press, exhibitors, and professionals alike. There are many times that you just want to drop your purchases, screw off your feet, and fall inert. Luckily for us, this past weekend The Mary Sue provided a very comfortable lounge in the lower level of the Jacob Javits center.

The room was typical of what you might expect when going to a panel at NYCC, only it was rearranged to be very inviting and accommodating. A reasonably sized couch and two comfortable chairs occupied the center of the lounge. There was a corner my friend dubbed the "Nap-corner" was it was filled with beanbags and other large pillows. However, not that many were actually napping as there was a variety of reading materials to be looked over. BOOM! Studios, Archaia, and Quirk books had provided a large selection of titles for lounge visitors to digest while resting their feet. Free wi-fi and phone charging stations were also available.

Creative activities such as the craft station, where I saw many con-goers engrossed in making friendship bracelets, and the Mary Sue coloring contest (which I participated in) where attendees were invited to color a template of the Mary Sue logo for a chance to win a Quirk Books package, provided a different and stree-free break away from the hectic convention floor.

There was also a schedule for casual signings throughout the weekend. Appearances included Babs Tarr, Marguerite Bennett, Allison Strejlau, James Tynion IV, Ian McGinty, Lindsay Ellis, Marcus To, Jackson Lanzing, Cat Staggs & Amanda Deibert, Choirfly- "a geeky a capella group", Shane-Michael Vidaurri, Jake Lawrence, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Sam Maggs, G Willow Wilson, Bryan Q. Miller, Michael Dialynas and Kate Leth.

The Mary Sue is an online editorial geared toward woman, celebrating all aspects and forms of geekdom- television, movies, comics, novels and more. They had several panels throughout the NYCC weekend in addition to providing this refreshing safe-space for weary travelers.
