Nazis Beware – Simon Says You're Going to Pay [Review]

In the aftermath of World War II and the Nuremberg Trials, the collective deem that justice has been served to the victims of the Holocaust and strive to move on emotionally and politically.  One man, however, armed with his dead wife's lipstick, takes up arms in a war-torn Europe to hunt down ex-Nazis and personify the vigilant hero he was so desperate for during times of war.

Nazis Beware – Simon Says You're Going to Pay

Simon Boychik endured the Holocaust as an artist for the Third Reich, painting swastikas on Nazi train cars and secretly documenting the men responsible for the atrocities committed against his people during the war.  With his entire family massacred, over 80 members wiped from existence through hatred, Simon's only solace is revenge and he vows to hunt down every last coward.  Calling for the help of a German army colleague, the daughter of a Wehrmacht Colonel, and an experienced wartime correspondent, Simon's ragtag group sets their focus on the heart of the leftover Nazi initiative and vows to end them once and for all.

Nazis Beware – Simon Says You're Going to Pay

Writer Andre R. Frattino (A Land Remembered) and artist Jesse Lee introduce a gritty new take on a vigilante detective, aiming him straight at society's most deplorable representations of hatred and ignorance.  There is no warmth in the vibe of this pre-Cold War European story, as the titular character is haunted by the reality he endured during the war.  In a world of black and white, Lee plays on the visual aesthetics also seen in Schindler's List, displaying only the color red, most hauntingly seen in Simon's wife's lipstick which he uses to mark swastikas on the forehead of every Nazi he apprehends.  Beautifully written and hauntingly compiled, Simon Says has the vibe of Punisher or Sin City, with smart dialogue that will weigh heavy on one's heart even after the comic is completed.  Inspired by a true story, Simon Says is a dark reminder that for evil to flourish, it only requires good men to do nothing.
