Oni Announces Overship for Faceless & The Family

Oni Press is also prepping the release of Matt Lesniewski's Faceless and the Family with word that it will "overship" retailers 50% extra

After a series of high-profile New York Comic-Con announcements over the past week – including new box sets for Scott Pilgrim's 20th anniversary, five creator-owned series under the banner of "Oni 2024", and a new line of toy-inspired licensed series in partnership with the Nacelle Company – Oni Press is also emphasizing the upcoming release of cartoonist Matt Lesniewski's Faceless and the Family with word that it will be "overshipping" retailers 50% extra copies of the issue's standard A cover free of charge in advance of its 1st of November street date.

Said Oni's newly minted Vice President of Sales Spencer Simpson: "Matt Lesniewski's stunningly detailed, black-and-white artwork is a marvel to behold, and we've pulled out the stops to present Faceless And The Family #1 is the best, most breathtaking package possible: cardstock covers, uncoated paper stock specifically selected to capture the minute detail of Matt's art, and 48 pages of content with no ads. We're confident that once readers get the double-sized first issue in their hands, the exemplary quality of Faceless' storytelling will be obvious to see. That's why we're excited to arm retailers with extra over ship copies that they can put to good use, drawing in new readers and securing subscribers for the rest of the series' four-issue run."

After the unexpected (and allocation-inducing) success of Jay Stephens' Dwellings for Oni earlier this summer, it would seem the publisher is stoking retailers to expect Faceless and the Family to follow a similar course. At a time when many are reporting decreased foot traffic in the fall months, bonus copies of a double-sized, $7.99 first issue might just be a welcome surprise…

As revealed earlier today on Bleeding Cool, Oni Press has also announced two new printings: first, a "foil-stamped" Faceless and The Family #1 Local Comic Shop Day variant, which will be limited to 500 copies total and retail for $9.99. The issue will go on sale for Local Comic Shop Day on Wednesday, the 22nd of November.

And speaking of Oni's other certified hit of the fall, Dwellings by cartoonist and animator Jay Stephens is also going back to print with the Dwellings #2 Second Printing Variant, featuring a new cover. The issue will go on sale on the 29th of November before Dwellings #3 – the series' third and final issue – arrives in December.
