Penny Dreadful Continues As Comic Hits Shops Today

Titan Comics is picking up where Showtime left off with their dark / supernatural series Penny Dreadful. The title was based on a type of British fiction publication that featured sensational and lurid subject matter. The series pulled together classic horror icons from the public domain: Dorian Gray, Mina Harker, Abraham Van Helsing, Dr. Sweard, Renfield, Dracula, Victor Frankestein and his monster and Dr. Jekyll.

After two seasons on the air, Showtime renewed it for a third, but creator John Logan had decided that he would wrap up the series with the third season. Titan has picked up the license for the series and is continuing it from where the third season left off, tapping the shows executive producer Chris King to write the comics while Jesús Hervás (Sons of Anarchy) will provide the art. The series will focus on Ethan Chandler as he tries to move on in a world without Vanessa. But you know it won't be long until he has to stand up against creatures of the supernatural. The comic story picks up six months after the series finale.

This is not Titan's first Penny Dreadful story, in May of 2016 they published a one-shot written by King, Andrew Hinderaker and Krysty Wilson-Cairns with art by Louie De Martinis. The issue was a prequel to the series that explained why Vanessa decided to look for her friend Mina Harker.

Titan has released this trailer for their new series that hits stores today.
