A Fascinating Place: Three Reasons Why You Should Read Lantern City Vol. 1 HC
This week brings the release of a wonderful story collected in a stunning hardcover edition. I'm talking about Lantern City Vol. 1 HC from Archaia. It collects the first four issues of the series, and if you're looking for some reasons to pick up a copy, here's three…
One: This book is written by some incredibly talented writers. By name, Paul Jenkins, Matthew Daley, and Mairghread Scott. The script is detailed, intense, and emotional. I dare you to not become invested in this cast of characters.
Two: Lantern City is a fascinating place. From the lower class living in near-constant darkness, to the enormous walls of the city always looming overhead, all while the upper class enjoys the elevated, interconnected towers and airships above. You will feel completely immersed in a new world as you flip through the pages.
Three: Carlos Magno's art style takes that immersed experience to an entirely deeper level. Just once glance through this comic and you will understand what I mean. The landscape, the character design, and the dark palette make for a memorable combination.
In fact, Bleeding Cool was quoted on the back of the book from a review written after the comics first issue release:
"It's clear that what lies ahead for this comic, is going to be beyond powerful."
…and I stand by that original comment.
Be sure to pick up your copy of Lantern City Vol. 1 HC this week.
