Blackmanthology On Kickstarter
I confess, that headline was pretty much written so you'd read this article. Look, it worked, sue me. Actually don't sue me, you might have a case. For a start, there's no anthology in sight.
Project Acropolis is a comic book project looking for funding that they can't actually tell you much about because they've all signed NDAs. I know, that's what I thought.
Basically it loks like a superhero comic book with a specifically racially diverse cast. And they're after $2000 to pay for software and hardware to get the project completed. $2000 to raise, $833 so far. Here's what I got out of Edward Williams.
It's an indie comic/ graphic novel putting a spotlight on the lack of diversity and gender in the comic industry today. We're taking the best of The Dark Knight, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings to build our foundation and use them as a platform to tell new superhero tales. No telling stories for shock-value or risking the cost of a character's integrity. This is a genuine, heartfelt project to revive superhero culture. It is akin to Noah's Ark, only instead of flooding the earth, we're flooding the industry and only taking the best of what works on the ark with us. If the Kickstarter project meets the goal of $2k we will be able to speed up our production. If we exceed it, we will be able to do more. That includes a website or blog to start building a fan base/ following (which will include information on our characters, universe, story, etc), and it will allow us to do some soft marketing once things become more concrete.
It's almost like they don't want you to give them your money. But they do. And I have.
