Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 8th June 2014 – Eternally At The Top

BM_WK_Cv9This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keeness you bring to your passion.

And again, Batman Eternal is back at the top, beating out Marvel's event title Original Sin. To date, five issues of the series so far have topped the charts, and two issues were beaten by Batman #1. #7 had a slump, but since then the comic's success has risen back.

But do note the increasing appearance of The Wake on this list as well as the rise of Moon Knight… and Action Comics does seem to have received the Doomed bump nicely.

  1. Batman Eternal #9
  2. Original Sin #3
  3. New 52 Futures End #5
  4. Action Comics #32
  5. Earth 2 #24
  6. Amazing X-Men #8
  7. The Wake #9
  8. Moon Knight #4
  9. Green Lantern #32
  10. Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #2

Thanks to the following retailers,

And this is what they had to say,

Very good response so far to the Bombshell covers. After the announcement of the creative change on Moon Knight, lots of people asking me to stop their holds at #6. Not good. Maybe we'll get a new #1 after #12. Concern that Futures End doesn't seem to be getting anywhere. I see this one dropping unless something dramatic happens soon.

Decent week in comics here. Original Sin is still winning over some of the Marvel fans who said they might sit this event out. I've heard from a lot of the people loving it that they are happy that it's not just the same old, "MASSIVE THREAT, LETS ALL BAND TOGETHER TO STOP IT" stories.

The Wake is selling like crazy for us, going head to head with some of the biggest Marvel & DC titles. Five Ghosts sold even better than usual with it's awesome Beatles homage Phantom Variant cover by Rob Guillory. Nailbiter #2 did very well too, lots of great word of mouth sales. People can't get enough of the new Image series.

Batman 66 Meets Green Hornet #1 though not a top ten is far exceeding expectations.
The Bombshell covers from DC are doing great.
Big Trouble In Little China is a surprise hot book.
Miracleman continues to move.
The Spectre appearance in Trinity of Sin: Phantom Stranger seems to have boosted sales.

Fat Jack's is having a 38th anniversay sale with a progressive discount by week:

week 1: 38% off back issues
week 2: 50% off
week 3: 65% off
and week 4: 76% off

so the oddest stuff is moving. Gold Key, Dell, Charlton, and OF COURSE Marvel and DC. But the odd stuff. (Bomba? Rom? Marvel Star Wars.)

Smaller week for books gave customers a little bit of a breather. Independent books were the books sought after the most with Nailbiter and the Woods selling really strong. Batman Eternal still a strong steady seller with many earlier issues getting bought up in sets now that we are a couple months into the story.

Spider-Man back issues are the big sellers in the back-issue market this week with people picking up all titles and not just Amazing Spider-Man. Secret service on the move with the speculators know that the trailer is out.

Very solid sales week. Big Trouble in Little China should have been up higher for us in sales but it blew out of here with in hours of being open Wednesday. DC's two weekly ttiles are still big sellers. Everyone who picked up the regular Amazing X-Men title picked up the Amazing X-Men Annual also. Action Comics 32 sold out on Wednesday. Lots of people excited about comics.

Spiderman is still a hot back issue seller for us. Batman's New 52 series back issues show no signs of slowing down. Past issues of Red Lantern are seeing some love. Black Widow and Iron Fist current series are seeing some major sales decline sadly. New trailers for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie keep pushing demand on the new and past issues of their series.
