Booze Geek – Brainless IPA And Braindead By Peter Jackson

By Dylan Gonzalez

Beer: Brainless IPA

Brewery: Epic Brewing

ABV: 6.6%

Epic-Brainless-IPADuring the writing of this entry, I forced myself not to utilize a brain pun in any way shape or form. It was very hard…must resist…on…to…review…

Brainless had a golden amber body and produced a thick, long-lasting and foamy head. It gave off a citrusy scent, primarily that of grapefruit. There were also some yeasty and wheaty qualities of a Belgian ale mixed in.

The beer had the trademark flavors of a Belgian-style IPA. The bitter hops blended in with a combination of clove and banana. There was also a slight bread-like taste and a little malt. The beer was surprisingly smooth, even with some noticeable carbonation. It left a bitter taste on my tongue.

Overall, this was good beer. It was easy to drink, not overly bitter and the Belgian qualities added some nice flavors to it.

What to Drink This Beer To:

braindead_poster_01In terms of gross out gore and random body parts flying everywhere, not much comes close to Braindead, the 1992 film from early on in filmmaker Peter Jackson's career. While it did not receive much attention, the film has garnered it since the success of The Lord of the Rings. But this is no ring quest. No, rather we have Sumatran Rat Monkeys, zombie babies, living intestines, squirting goo, bursting heads, a kung fu priest and…need I say more? The ending is without a doubt one of the single bloodiest things I have ever witnessed and then gets, well, grosser to say the least. If you haven't seen it, please do, I can't recommend it enough.

Dylan Gonzalez happens to love beer and comic books and luckily found a place to write about both because he has no idea how to actually make money in the real world. He lives in a cave in New Jersey. Tweet him at @BeardedPickle, follow his own beer blog at http://boozegeek.tumblr.com/ or email him at dylan.gonzalez1990@gmail.com.
