Booze Geek – Mad Anthony and Pirate Movies
By Dylan Gonzalez
Beer: Mad Anthony APA
Brewery: Erie Brewing Co.
Today, I delve into a bottle of Eerie Brewing Company's Mad Anthony APA. Unfortunately, it is about as lifeless as the skeleton adorning the bottle.
Mad Anthony is amber in color, with a slightly pink hue, and produces a large head that disappears rather quickly. Its carbonation is easily seen and it is highly active.
I gave it a whiff, I was surprised by much it reminded me of a pilsner rather than a pale ale. It was lightly hoppy and malty but nothing too strong.
When I got finally got around to drinking it, I was shocked when it tasted like…well, beer. Sure, there were some light malts and a sort of surgery water taste to it, but other than that, I did not find much in the way of flavor. It really reminded me of a cheap, domestic beer. Even down to the texture it was similar, with a watery quality and some carbonation.
Overall, for a craft beer, this was a letdown. It was largely boring and uninteresting, offering little in the way of good craft beer qualities.
What to Drink This To:
If you must drink this to something, then I would suggest, as the artwork shows one, a pirate movie. I will admit that I am not much of a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, but I like the first film enough. Heck, if you are really feeling it, throw on Peter Pan.
