David Bowie's Celebrity Comic Book Pullbox
It's recently been revealed that David Bowie is a massive fan of Viz Comic, the British newstand offensively funny and satiral comic magazine.
But surely that's not enough for our man? What else will he be picking up from his local branch of Forbidden Planet? We took a peek.
STARDUST – Okay, Ziggy, it's not exactly a comic, more an illustrated novella, but you don't hold that against it do you? Fairies, pirates, witches, it's Neil Gaiman with visual commentary by Charles Vess. And obviously it's better than the film. It always is. No annoying Ricky Gervais turn for a start.
LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN VOLUME TWO – Not only is there Life On Mars, but there's lots of it. All the Martian races from Victorian fiction fight each other and the HG Welles lot come to Earth to continue their battle. Where they are met by the colected works of Bram Stoker, Robert Louis Stevenson, Jules Verne, AA Milne and Conan Doyle.
IRON MAN: EXTREMIS – For tin men everywhere. This book puts Tony Stark front and centre as a business man trying to find an outlet for his creativity. And taking it to, well, shall we say… extremes? Body modification doesn't come more series than this. From Warren Ellis and Adi Granov, currently working on a mystery project together.
SHADE THE CHANGING MAN – finally being collected in its entirety, this book by Peter Milligan and Chris Bachalo examines a man from space whose hallucinations are made real around him, with serious, satirical and poignant consequences. an anyone think of a more perfect Bowie book?
VIZ COMIC – oh go on then, pick up a collection of some of those early ninteen eighties issues of the coarse comedy anthology olf comics and assorted nonsense. The kids British comic book reinterpreted through the same kids' eyes, now all grown up.
Thank you David for that brief glimpse at your comic book tastes. But remember, you might want to stay off the sweeties…
