Deadly Class: Detention is the Least of Your Worries at THIS School (TRAILER)

With the cable network's adaptation of Rick Remender (Black Science, Tokyo Ghost) and Wes Craig's critically acclaimed Image Comics comic book Deadly Class set to open the doors on its freshman year in January 2019, Syfy is giving us a brand new look at the series. This time, the focus is less on the violence (though there's some) or the visuals (though they still look great) and more on the students themselves. From the looks of the new trailer and key art below, things are looking pretty good (or bad, depending on your perspective) – but you just might want to avoid detention…

Deadly Class: Detention is the Least of Your Worries at THIS School (TRAILER)

Adapted for television by Remender and Miles Orion Feldsott (American Koko), and spearheaded by Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, here's a look at the series set to premiere on SYFY on January 16, 2019:

Set in a dark, heightened world against the backdrop of late '80s counterculture, DEADLY CLASS follows the story of Marcus (Benjamin Wadsworth), a teen living on the streets who is recruited into Kings Dominion, an elite private academy where the world's top crime families send their next generations. Maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques and his own adolescent uncertainties soon proves to be vital. Based on the best-selling 2014 Image Comics graphic novel by Rick Remender and Wes Craig, DEADLY CLASS is a coming-of-age journey full of ancient mystery and teen angst.

DEADLY CLASS stars Wadsworth ("Teen Wolf"), Benedict Wong ("Doctor Strange," "Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams"), Lana Condor ("'To All The Boys I've Loved Before," "X-Men: Apocalypse"), María Gabriela de Faría ("Yo Soy Franky," "Sitiados"), Luke Tennie ("Shock and Awe"), Liam James ("The Way Way Back," "The Killing"), and Michel Duval ("Señora Acero," QUEEN OF THE SOUTH).

From Sony Pictures Television and Universal Cable Productions (UCP), DEADLY CLASS was adapted for television by Remender and Miles Orion Feldsott, who serve as executive producers alongside Joe Russo ("Avengers: Infinity War," "Captain America: Civil War"), Anthony Russo ("Avengers: Infinity War," "Captain America: Civil War"), Mike Larocca ("Spy") and Mick Betancourt (USA Network's THE PURGE, "Shots Fired"). Remender, Feldsott and Betancourt share showrunner duties on the series.

Benedict Wong (Avengers: Infinity War) is set as Master Lin, the headmaster of the School for the Deadly Arts. Deadly and feared. He's an ever-changing chameleon who keeps his students desperate for his approval.

Benjamin Wadsworth (Teen Wolf) plays Marcus. At one point we were all Marcus, an awkward outcast full of social anxiety struggling to find his place in the cold and brutal world of high school. Marcus is bottled rage, if his life had been normal this kid might have been an artist, even a poet. Instead he's had to survive life on the streets of San Francisco. His eyes show it. He's morally centered in an unethical world.

Lana Condor (X-Men: Apocalypse) plays Saya, mysterious and guarded with a deadly reputation. Saya was banished from one of the top Yakuza clans in Japan, sent to the School for the Deadly Arts to redeem herself. Driven to be the valedictorian, nothing will stand in her way.

Maria Gabriela de Faria (Sitiados) plays Maria. One minute Maria's an extrovert and an exhibitionist, a tornado of ever changing emotions — fierce, charming, beautiful and oozing femininity — the next she's murderous, feral, and crippled by rage. At the School for the Deadly Arts her instability is treated like a super power.

Luke Tennie (Shock and Awe) plays Willie, a hardened gangster, but underneath is an honest and thoughtful person who would rather be reading comic books and listening to music than engaging in blood work. Forced by his mother, leader of an LA gang, into the School for the Deadly Arts, he is under endless pressure to become the thing he hates most.

Liam James (The Family) plays Billy, skater punk, son of a corrupt cop and now a misfit at the school. He's off kilter and high energy. Billy combats every situation with sarcasm and humor. Always a glimmer of mischief in his eye.

Michel Duval (Queen of the South) plays Chico, scary, muscular, son of a cartel drug lord. Everyone knows not to mess with Chico. The only one who can hurt him is his girlfriend.

Tom Stevens (Wayward Pines) plays Chester "F*ckface" Wilson, a resident of the same boys' home Marcus lived in before an incident there sends him out onto the streets of San Francisco. An incident at the boys' home leaves Chester thirsty for revenge against Marcus, his new archenemy. Built like a linebacker with a distinct face, he is vile and volatile, and ready to take down anyone in his path to vengeance.

In addition, Deadly Class includes: Henry Rollins (Sons of Anarchy) as Jürgen Denke; Taylor Hickson  (Aftermath) as Petra; Siobhan Williams (UnREAL) as Brandy; Jack Gillett (Storker) as Viktor; Sean Depner  (Last Night in Suburbia) as Lex; and Ryan Robbins (Pure) as Rory.
