Director Of Rango And Writer Of The Grudge Teaming Up For Supernatural Serial Killer TV Series
Josh Hylton writes for Bleeding Cool:
When Gore Verbinski does anything, my ears perk up. I love his style and become captivated by whatever he puts on the screen, even when the movie and character actions don't particularly make sense (like the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie). Conversely, I shudder everytime someone mentions The Grudge, (or even worse, The Grudge 2). Well, news coming down the pipeline from Deadline today is that Verbinski is teaming up with Stephen Susco, the writer of the American-produced Grudge films for a supernatural crime drama. So…yay?
The television show, which is being produced for Starz a, is called The Brink and is based on a J.C. Hutchins book called Personal Effects: Dark Art. I know nothing about the book, but apparently it "chronicles art therapist Zach Taylor's investigation into the life and madness of Martin Grace, an accused serial killer who claims to have foreseen, but not caused, his victims' deaths." Deadline also says that the show will feature "various online extensions," whatever that means.
While I can't judge it just yet, you can color me uninterested for two reasons: 1) Stephen Susco, and 2) I don't subscribe to Starz. I'm way too poor for such expenses.
Editor's note: Conversely, I like the Grudge films but am pretty lukewarm, at best, on anything Verbinski did before Rango, and I'm not exactly head over heels with that either.
