Gary Friedrich Loses Ghost Rider Rights Legal Battle
Ghost Rider co-creator Gary Friedrich launched a case against Marvel Comics in 2007, requiring that the copyright revert to his company, as a creator-owned property. Never the most water tight case, and given that Marv Wolfman had failed with a much clearer case regarding the ownership of Blade, odds were that this was never going to go well. And indeed, the courts have now backed up the original decision from last year, that Ghost Rider was a work-for-hire property and thus not revertable under 1976 legislation and that this case should be dismissed.
However Rodrigo Baeza reports rumours that there may have been a degree of settlement behind this decision…
