Grab A Cushion And Watch This Red Band Trailer For New Scott Derrickson Horror, Sinister
Sinister happens to be the last screening I attended on behalf of Bleeding Cool, and as a PR stunt/psychological experiment, they had several audience members hooked up to monitoring equipment and several night vision cameras capturing the response in the auditorium. This means that somewhere out there is footage of Bleeding Cool's erstwhile hardened and unspookable horror expert curled up in her seat and peeping through her fingers like a little girl. A little girl with bunches. Called Dora.
Yes, Sinister is scary, and you can read in detail why it's so scary when our review is published on Friday. The film was written and directed by Scott Derrickson (Hellraiser: Inferno, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and stars Ethan Hawke as a father, husband, and crime writer called Ellison who moves his unsuspecting family into the site of a grisly multiple murder. He finds a surprise boon to his work in the form of a series of Super 8 "home videos" in the attic, handing him everything he needs to write a successful comeback book after a series of failures. Ellison watches the films, and then instead of throwing them in the bin and driving his entire family to Alaska, changing their names and hiring trained attack dogs like he should do, he sticks around to continue his research. This is a bad idea.
Sinister premiered at Frightfest this year and is out on general release from 5th October. I'd almost recommend not watching this new red band trailer, which shows a little too much of the movie's monster and gives away a couple of the better scares. Just buy a ticket and go in blind, and don't blame me for any subsequent heart conditions you may develop.
