Kieron Gillen And Jamie McKelvie – Was That Their Last Thought Bubble As DJs?

The Thought Bubble Mid-Show Party at the Corn Exchange was an unqualified success. The new location, in the round, in a circular and domed shopping centre was leagues over the previous location in the Town Hall. It admitted fewer people, and I joined a small crowd outside in the rain while the organisers tried to work out how many of the invited guests would attend.

And then we broke through to find the place that I was used to go to buy comic books from, was a place full of those who make comics, playing and dancing to music the whole night long. And love was in the house.

Well mostly. We have already run the DMC-In-The-House Thought Bubble live set of It's Tricky and Walk This Way, but here's a look at some of the rest of party night…

Joining the traditional Thought Bubble DJs Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie with Anthony Johnston and Al Ewing were newcomers to the party Kate Leth and Marguerite Bennett. After a night in which those who didn't attend were kicking themselves in the morning when they were told what went down, Kieron told me that this may be his and Jamie's last Thought Bubble as DJs. But that after last night there were many comic creators who could clearly carry the mantle going forward.

In his own notes, he writes,

Jamie and I found ourselves talking about it maybe being the last year of doing the party. Partially because of the feeling of the last couple of years, of it probably time to pass the torch (and god knows I wish Marguerite and Kate were locals so we could pass to them.) We've done six years. Art should change.

But the morning after, it was much more "how on earth do you follow that?"

Never say never, but, etc.

Gillen and McKelvie has made the party a legendary part of the Thought Bubble experience. But that's what legends do, they inspire those who follow…

And, yes, I totally stopped talking to Amy Reeder at one point so I could dance to the Pippettes. Sorry Amy.
