They say:

Welcome to another special episode of The Orbiting Pod!

Back in January, we were very fortunate to have Savage Pencil (Edwin Pouncey) visit the store, in conjunction with the Battle of the Eyes exhibition. We are now pleased to present the talk he gave at the time, on Underground comics in America. Drawing from his own experiences with the material, he provided us with a brief history of the movement, covering the likes of Robert Crumb, Justin Green, Trina Robbins, Art Spiegelman, and much more.

We are also pleased to present this episode as an enhanced podcast: this means that if you play it through iTunes, Quicktime, or on your mobile device, the artwork should change to correspond with the slides used on the night!

Selected readings for this talk come from the following sources:

Patrick Rosenkranz:

Rebel Visions: The Underground Comix Revolution 1963-1975 (Fantagraphics, 2008)

Clay Geerdes:

"Underground comics become an industry" from Eric Fromm's Comics And Stories List, Vol. 1, No. 1 (1973)

Dan Nadel/Glenn Bray (editors):

So That's Where Demented Wented: The Comics And Art Of Rory Hayes (Picture Box, 2008)
