Netflix Picks up Season 2 of Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It

Less than two months after its first season premiere, Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It has been picked up for a second season by Netflix. Based on the 1986 film that helped launch Lee's directorial career, the 10-episode first season stars DeWanda Wise as lead Nola Darling along with Margot Bingham, Chyna Layne, Elise Hudson, Cleo Anthony, Lyriq Bent and Anthony Ramos. Produced by the streaming service, the series is executive produced by Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, Barry Michael Cooper and Lynn Nottage; with Lee also directing the season's episodes.

Lee and his wife, Tonya Lewis, took to Instagram on New Year's Day to make the announcement via video and thank fans for all of the support they've shows the series, beginning with the caption: "Happy New Year. Happy Year. Great News For 2018." You can see the video for yourselves here:

"She's Gotta Have It the Netflix Original Series from Academy Award Nominated Director SPIKE LEE is a 10-episode contemporary update of Lee's 1986 revolutionary debut film. Starring DeWanda Wise (Shots Fired) in the central role of Nola Darling, a Brooklyn-based artist in her late twenties struggling to define herself and divide her time amongst her Friends, her Job and her Three Lovers: Greer Childs played by Cleo Anthony (Divergent), Jamie Overstreet played by Lyriq Bent (The Book of Negroes), and Mars Blackmon played by Hamilton alum Anthony Ramos. Chyna Layne (Precious) and Ilfenesh Hadeara (Baywatch), Margot Bingham (Barbershop: The Next Cut), Sydney Morton (Love, New York), and Joie Lee (Do The Right Thing) also star. Lee directs all 10 episodes of the series, he created and produced the show."

Netflix originally announced a series adaptation of She's Gotta Have It in September 2016, with Lee directing all episodes of the first season. Whether or not Lee will be directing any or all of the second season's episodes still remains to be seen.
