The Hunt For Bill Sienkiewicz's Batman: City Of Crime Original Art
In 2006, David Lapham wrote a twelve issue arc in Detective Comics called City Of Crime. Drawn by Ramon Bachs and Nathan Massengill, it was meant originally to include an arc drawn by Bill Sienkiewicz.
For some reason it did not. A first issue was completed, but was never published and Bacjs redrew the issue in question.
Now, it seems, DC are wanting to publish that issue independently, with a new script. But DC no longer has high resolution images of the pages. And neither does Bill, after a hard drive melted down on him.
Twenty-three original art pages were sold through art dealer Mitch Itkowitz/ Graphic Collectibles. But there is no record of the purchasers.
So consider this an appeal to anyone who bought Batman work by Bill that might be along this vein, get in touch. Some pages are 11×17, some are 20×30, some are inbetween.
Bill doesn't even need the original art, just to arrange a 400dpi greyscale scan of the piece. Bill is talking to DC about arranging an incentive to those who can help, but damn it, you shouldn't need any. Get in touch and I'll pass the message on.
