The Return Of Transmetropolitan For 2011… Ish

Late last week hypergeek.ca pieced together some news regarding a new Transmetropolitan project for charity. A text conversation took place on Twitter confirming the existence of a Charity Book pertaining to author Warren Ellis & artist Darick Robertson's Vertigo Comics creation. Identified as Transmet on Twitter, several weeks ago messages began to surface from the previously dormant account.

We have received confirmation from both creators that a hardcover collection is indeed being prepared for release in the first quarter of 2011.

Warren Ellis has confirmed for BleedingCool.com that he will, in fact, be providing a foreword.

Robertson was able to share some additional details about the upcoming publication and his contribution.

"The book was brought to me as an idea for fundraising for the CBLDF (Comic Book Legal Defense Fund). Since it's for a great cause, I was more than happy to give it my blessing as well as provide some art for it. Most noticeably will be a wrap around cover. I was very happy to hear that Warren Ellis will be contributing as well," explains Robertson.

The book will represent a myriad of artists interpreting the world of Transmetropolitan. Keeping in line with the visionary content of the 60 issue series, the compilation of contributors is rumored to be pushing the boundaries of multimedia art.

"It sounds fascinating, and I'm honored," says Robertson.

Plans currently include proceeds to be distributed to the CBLDF as well as The Hero Initiative.

"Both are two of my favorite charities, and I try to help them as often as I can. The CBLDF provides legal funds so store owners and publishers don't get abused by the legal system."

Both Ellis and Robertson have a long-standing history of involvement with the CBLDF. This year Robertson provided a cover for the CBLDF's Liberty Comics Annual 2010, which was sold as a limited edition print through the CBLDF at the San Diego Comic-Con. Speaking of Comic-Con, Robertson spent several hours sketching and signing autographs at The Hero Initiative booth this year.

Robertson is looking forward to seeing the finished product. Even he has no definitive idea of what to expect.

"I love seeing different artists interpret The City and how their imaginations help that world grow."

Coincidentally, the Twitter account for Transmetropolitan is only following 6 entities. One of which is Pirates Press, a graphic design and custom printing company based in San Francisco, California. Pirates Press recently published Ben Templesmith's hardcover art book, Squidgirls.

More details to come as the publication date is confirmed and contributors can be announced.
