Things To Do In Gloucester, UK This Weekend If You Like Comics

By Olly MacNamee

logoCheltenham has for decades been known throughout the United Kingdom and the globe for its horseracing, with crowds flocking each year to witness the Cheltenham Gold Cup with the first Gold Cup horserace dating back to 1819. That's tradition for you.

But, for one day only this coming Saturday, 7th February, the historical racecourse will be taken over by comic book fans and creators and the first True Believers Comic Festival.

Like other independently funded cons this festival's goal is simple: focus on the comics and the creators without necessarily all the other trappings of pop-culture that other, bigger cons include more and more of.

The guest list includes artists Mike Collins (Dr Who, Judge Dredd), Lee Garbett (Loki: Agent Of Asgard, Batman), Dylan Teague (Jonah Hex, Batman) and Emma Vieceli (Vampire Academy, Manga Shakespeare). Check out the whole list of guests for the day by just clickety-clicking here.

Last year, at the Excelsior Awards in Sheffield I got to meet a very talented new artist going by the name of Mr Hope. He will be doodling throughout the day, along with an army of independent illustrators, publishers and the like dotted across the venue. Go check him out as he is new to the con scene, but, like so many there on the day, so, so talented. It's a con that you could easily walk away with a bundle of original art without breaking the bank. I already have Fiona and Cake and Paranormal pieces by Mr Hope and I am sure I will be getting more on the day.

The Midlands Comic Con season start here folks. Don't be late and any cosplayers out there; dress to impress.
