Trailer: Percy Jackson Sea Of Monsters Ups The Ante And The Monsters

This looks something like a messed-up combination of Bryan Singer's second X-Men film and… well, Percy Jackson: Lightning Thief. Funny that.

Despite my misgivings about the earlier film, I think this certainly looks the part. Those monsters look fantastic, and the vast world created in Rick Riordan's popular books seems to be coming to life on quite a grand scale.

Director Thor Freudenthal has got considerably less experience in this field than Lightning Thief's Chris Columbus, but that might not necessarily be a bad thing. If the trailer's anything to go by, I'm a lot more excited for his fresher take on the Percy Jackson story than the previous film's fantasy-by-numbers, I-did-Harry-Potter-don't-you-know approach.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is due out in the US and UK on August 7th.
